German Cube Day 2006

The wednesday before the German Open... I went to Hoek van Holland to pick up Dan and Lisa from the ferry.

Dan and Lisa arrived safely.

Dan was a bit tired from the journey, I guess.

Dan Harris finds €5,- in his own wallet :).

We did a little sightseeing in The Hague and Rotterdam.

This picture was taken inside the big city hall of The Hague.

We raced the elevator.

Dan made it!

Dan Harris posing inside the city hall... This picture looks quite cool, I think.

This is me, posing after I set a new Dutch record for solving the cube with one hand. (I am sorry for the order of the pics btw... Something went wrong here, I think :( ).

We also went to see the 'binnenhof'...

We tried a little teamsolving on our way to Rotterdam.

In Rotterdam, we went to see the Euromast.

Dan and Lisa posing, with a view of Rotterdam on the background. The cool looking bridge in the background is the Erasmus bridge... You will see a small version of this bridge on anothter photo...

Another view of Rotterdam. The white building is a Hospital, I think.

...

Those boards were pretty useless...

Lisa watches her boyfriend as he is doing an offical attempt at the megaminx. (Again.. The order of the pics isn't correct :))

We had to take another elevator to bring us to yet another elevator that took us all the way to the top of the Euromast.

There was a restaurant inside the Euromast.

Dan Harris was quite happy to set a very nice UK record for the megaminx.

I remember I showed Lisa some cool patterns for on the cube.. She liked that a lot.

Having breakfast in Germany.

Lisa liked the souvenirs.

Windmills!!

More souvenirs.

Dan and Lisa posing in Scheveningen.

Dan has a very nice camera... Quite a few picture on this page were actually made by him! Thanks Dan! ;)

A picture of me taking a picture.

Lisa asked me to take a picture of the little ones as well... Ok Lisa, here you go ;). You are right, they look cute.

Oehhw... This one doesn't look very cute :).

Playing some pool.. I am not very good at it, but I like to play around a little. Dan and Lisa we both much better.

We went to a very cool cafe near the beach... The weather was perfect to relax outside. I had a nice Italian Coffee.

Dan Harris had some hot chocolate.

The ambiance in the cafe was quite relaxed... These people were really wondering why I took a picture of them... I guess I liked the view of people around that fire.

This is wat I call relaxing!

Saturday afternoon. The Dutch cubers gathering in Venendaal.

Jaap working on a magic?

Lars poses with one of his prizes.

Gunnar and Kåre Krig.

Jaap showing a magic trick to Stefan, Lars... And a Hungarian guy with a very cool neckless. (Not sure what his name is)

I was very happy to set a new Dutch record for blindfold cubing... Thanks to Dave Jones for judging me, and for taking the picture afterwards.

Me working on the 5x5.

I wasn't able to take many pictures from the actual event. During a competition, I am always busy with chatting with other cubers, exchanging tricks, and preparing myself for the next event. This is a picture of me receiving a trophee for winning the 3x3 event.

The top 3 cubers of the German Open 2006. Congratulations to me, Gunnar and Ron. Also congratulations to Gunnar for winning a lot of other events, such as the 2x2 and one handed cubing.

Friday evening... Me judging Stijn van Gils.

On our way back, we stopped at a road side restaurant to have dinner.

Lars and Dan did a teamsolve.

Lars judging during the megaminx event.

Auch!! My megaminx pops a lot.. Luckily I was still able to set a reasonable time.

2:26.40 is the new Dutch record.. I was quite happy with this time.

We watched some snooker when we got back on saturday evening.

Sunday morning, we stopped at a supermarket, so Dan and Lisa could buy some typically Dutch food.

We went to 'Madurodam'. It's an attraction with scale models of Dutch buildings and landmarks in a scale of 1:25. This picture looks like it could have been taken from an airplane.

Funny enough, the were no Dutch numberplates.. Just German, French and Italian... And some others.

Het Muiderslot.

Haha.. This picture looks quite convincing.. Notice the giants walking around in the background.

Lisa and Dan posing in madurodam.

Lisa checking out the trains at Schiphol.

Hey.. I recognise this boat from the first picture!

The Erasmusbrug... Remember this one from Rotterdam?

A swimmingpool... Good waterslides... Actually, there was a waterslide missing in this scale model. If you have been to 'Het tikibad' once, you might notice that the 'Flits' or 'Blits' is missing (not sure which one, because I mix them up...)
