German Cube Day 2005

The thursday before the competition, Dan Harris arrived on Amsterdam Airport (Schiphol), and I was there to pick him up. He was staying at my room in Leiden for one night, and we had lots of fun :).

Before we went to Germany, we all gathered at Peter Janssen's home.

From left to right: Arjan Bosse, Joel van Noort, Sean Connolly, Ton Dennebroek.

Ron practicing on the 3x3. Looks like he is having a good cube.

I am relaxing for my 4x4 solve.

Dan Harris solving the 4x4.

Lars Vandenbergh on an official 5x5 solve. I remember he had trouble with finding the pieces, because the lighting was not very good.

Stefan Pochmann on his way to a World Record for the megaminx. Very impressive.

I had a few races with Lars.

Me, as I am practicing some more on the 3x3. That's Michel Bechtatou on the left: the fastest German cuber.

I got to borrow some cubes from other people, so I could try to do three cubes in a row.

Done!

My first attempt, and I did 51.87. Not very bad... Thank's to Sean and Stefan for letting me use their cubes. Both cubes turned very well.

Memorising my cube...

...and solving it blindfolded. The time was 10:25.56: a new personal record. Yeah, I know it's not very fast, but I never really practice BLD cubing.

I had the honour of judging Lars in the finals. He was very focussed, and flying though every solve.

Scrambling the cubes. We were paying extra attention, making sure that all the cubes were exactly identical.

All competitors of the German Open 2005.

When the GCD was over, we had dinner at an Italian restaurant. Per made me solve my BIG 3x3 cube with one hand (auch!).
