European Championships 2004

I got interviewed by a local newspaper a few days before the EC.

Friday evening at the hotel, there was a meeting (with free drinks ;)). Here I am talking to Eivind Fonn, a speedcuber from Norway. In the background, you can see Dan Harris, his girlfriend Lisa, and LarsV's father, who is a very kind guy (just like Lars).

Racing with some other cubers.

It was also the first time I got to meet Stefan Pochmann. I think I was discussing some things about blindfoldsolving here. I remember he told me he doesn't really memorise digits, but he likes to associate the color combinations with 'images' (blue-white for Donald Duck, for example).

That was my first solve at the EC! I was pretty satisfied with that time. I was averaging around 22 seconds back then.

That's not a very good time for me. That's Per Kristen Fredlund doing an official solve on the left! Per is a very nice guy, and he has a very interesting method for the bigger cubes.

Koen and me solving under big pressure. Koen handled the pressure very well that day!

This was my worst solve of the EC. And they actually broadcasted the last few seconds (including a shot of the timer display) on Dutch National television. Well, I am probably the only person in the world who remembers this, so who cares? :).

Koen Heltzel setting a very good time. I remember watching him solving in the finals, he was solving very calm and fluent.

Finally a good time for me.

Koen being interviewed for Dutch Television. You can actually watch this interview at his site: www.baseplace.nl.

Dror Vomberg finished a good blindfolded solve here. Well, he probably hoped for a better time, but the crowd was impressed.

I also attended in the blindfold event, but I didn't have a succesfull attempt.

The finals of the fewest moves event. That's UK #1 cuber Dan Harris on the third table (from the left)!
