Dutch Championship 2005

On my way to Eindhoven, I heard someone typing really fast in the train at Utrecht... Or actually, it was Ruben, solving his Ruben's Cube.

Erik Akkersdijk is new to speedcubing, but he made some nice progressions lately. This was his first official competition.

Niels Sijm, a friend of Koen Heltzel.

Ton explained the new judges about all the rules. They had to practice it, but they did a great job during the competition! This wasn't official yet, but just a practice for the judges.

The judge explains one of the very few female competitor about the rules. I think... (but I am not sure at all) this could be Rinie van der Heijden.

A close up of an official solve... Don't worry, I asked permission to get this close :).

It was the second time for me to meet Maarten Stoelhorst. He's already averaging in the lower 20's. I can't see anything Maarten, your hair is all over the place!! :p

Pim Geels, a co-worker of Ron, volunteered to help with the competition. Jaap Scherphuis scrambling cubes. Thanks to both of them for their help!

Michael Fung has also been speedcubing for a year. He got 4th, and I think that's a great achievement, because this was his first competition.

Auch!! Looks like he got a 2-second penalty :(.

Guus Razoux-Schultz, with a big smile. Guus is one of the Dutch cubers that has been cubing since the 80's. He got 2nd at the Worlds in 1982!

Maarten Stoelhorst and Koen Heltzel practicing. All Dutch cubers did 100's of races that day.

Ron concentrating during the blindfold event...

Ruben Geels also trying to do a blindfolded solve.

Me, Alexander Ooms and Michael Fung racing.

Ton Dennebroek racing with Ron van Bruchem.

After the finals, a girl from the audience picked up a cube from one of the tables.

Me racing with Koen Heltzel. Koen made some significant improvements on the 3x3 lately.

The top three cubers of the Netherlands: Ron van Bruchem, Joel van Noort and Koen Heltzel. I must say that I was very proud to beat Ron and Koen in competition. Like me, Ron was in pretty good shape, so the competition was exciting.

Pfff.. I didn't know these trophees where THAT big.. How am I going to take these home?

I travelled back home together with Micheal Fung. I also tested my new camera by making some movies of him solving square-1... Michael has become extremely fast with square-1!

Back in the Hague, waiting for another train... The box contains all the stuff that I won that day. Other than trophees, I also won some games, and 2 more cubes :). Oh, and I heard I also won ticket's to the EC2006... Don't know how to make that official yet, though.

Leiden Centraal, that's where I was heading... I couldn't wait to get back home and show off my trophees to my housemates.
