Step one: Form a cross on the bottom
Ok, let’s start solving the cube. I will show you how to solve the cube in 7 steps. The first step is solving the four edge pieces on the bottom. Like this:

Like a lot of speedcubers, I always hold the cube with the white face on the bottom, so I always start with the same four edge pieces. This step can be done intuitively. At first, this will take some practice, but it can be done very quickly once you are used to it. In most of cases, this step can be done in 6 or 7 moves. Finding the shortest solution requires a lot of experience. It’s important to understand, that the pieces must be in the correct position relative to each other. For example, if you have the green-white edge piece in the FD position, you should put the orange-white edge piece in the RD position.
If you know the colour scheme of your cube by heart, you can ignore the colours of the centres and place the edges in the correct positions relative to each other, and solve the cross with one move of the D layer when you’re done. The applets below will give you some ideas about how to solve the cross in different situations. However, learning to solve the cross quickly requires a lot of practice.
